Support Email Outage

Starting at 3:01pm CST today, our team@foreflight.com address intermittently stopped receiving inbound email.  We’ve re-routed email and support responses are flowing again.  When anything is amiss with our team@foreflight.com inbox, we hop to.

We use Google Apps (Gmail) to host our ForeFlight mailboxes, so it seemed a little odd that we would be experiencing issues (it’s Google … they don’t go down, right?). Something’s amiss with the Gmail service, and others are reporting similar problems on the Gmail forums.

We apologize for any inconvenience, especially for an issue like this that keeps us from responding rapidly to customer support requests.

Enhanced Route Weather and Winds Aloft Calculations

Enhanced route weather and winds aloft calculations are now available to ForeFlighers. This means if you plan a flight using airways, GPS waypoints, or SIDS/STARS, for example, ForeFlight will display the current flight rules for the waypoint and incorporate more winds aloft forecast data and display enhanced, wind-corrected flight plans.

We also now have global, gridded, winds aloft forecast data and will shortly be able to incorporate winds aloft computations for any route of flight, anywhere on the planet, at altitudes up to 60,000′. Here’s a screenshot of the Nav Log showing flight rules for waypoints.

ForeFlight Tops Apple’s 2010 Rewind Rankings in Weather Category for iPad

Apple recently released it’s 2010 Rewind lists, which rank the top free and paid applications. We’re excited, thankful, and grateful to all ForeFlighters for pushing ForeFlight HD to the top spot in the weather category for iPad apps.

We look forward to a great 2011 and will start the year with some pretty killer new features for both iPhone and iPad.

As always, blue skies.
