ForeFlight offers European operators the unique combination of powerful planning and filing capabilities, state-of-the-art hazard awareness features, and Jeppesen’s world-class data and charts in one integrated app.

GENEVA, CH | 28 May 2018: ForeFlight today announced that it will introduce its flagship Integrated Flight Application for business aviation operators in Europe this summer.

ForeFlight Mobile to web for Europe

ForeFlight Mobile, which will be on display for demonstration at EBACE (stand K66), is the most widely used application by individual pilots and professional flight crews to efficiently access weather and airport information, plan flights with Eurocontrol valid optimized routing, file flight plans, access and manage electronic charts and maps, reference flight manuals and documents, avoid terrain and obstacles with state-of-the-art hazard awareness tools, access in-flight weather where supported, and aid enroute navigation.

ForeFlight will offer European flight crews a single solution for IFR and VFR planning, filing, and flying. All subscription plans for the Europe region include Jeppesen’s best-in-class digital IFR and VFR navigation data, which are dynamically rendered directly on ForeFlight’s fast data-driven Aeronautical Map, as well as AIP procedures, charts, and documents provided via EUROCONTROL.

Optional purchases include Jeppesen VFR terminal procedures (formerly Bottlang charts), Jeppesen IFR global chart coverages (available today), and host nation VFR data packages – initially with an option to add the AIP and charts from DFS.

An Integrated Solution for Flight Departments

ForeFlight’s powerful features combined with Jeppesen’s world-class aeronautical data products gives flight departments an integrated solution for charts, documents, weather, route planning, briefing, filing, and flying.

“We’re excited to demonstrate ForeFlight Mobile’s European capabilities at EBACE along with a host of new features designed for the business aviation market,” said ForeFlight Co-founder and CEO, Tyson Weihs. “We are combining an array of high-quality European data, our EUROCONTROL-integrated flight planning and filing capabilities, and a broad suite of navigation and safety features to deliver a uniquely powerful and affordable integrated flight application for VFR and IFR flying.”

“Our team members in Denmark, Germany, Austria, UK, and Finland – along with our large beta team and thousands of current European customers – are flying throughout Europe every week and helping us carefully craft a great product for operators here,” said Kim Lantz, ForeFlight European Director. “When we release ForeFlight Mobile for Europe this summer, we expect pilots will find the integration of ForeFlight’s own data, Jeppesen VFR and IFR data, data provided via EUROCONTROL, and host nation data from providers like DFS; our fast, accurate flight planning and routing; and the breadth of in-flight features combine to deliver a delightful experience that makes planning and flying in Europe a joy.”

EBACE attendees are encouraged to visit the ForeFlight stand (K66) for a demonstration and to sign up for notifications about ForeFlight’s European release. You can learn more about ForeFlight Mobile as well as sign up for notifications by visiting foreflight.com/europe.

Essential Charts and Data for IFR and VFR Flying

ForeFlight’s powerful, state-of-the-art map engine gives the app its signature speed and fluidity when panning and zooming. The global basemap and data-driven Aeronautical Map layer feature Jeppesen’s high-quality terrain, obstacle, and NavData®.

In addition, Jeppesen’s Europe VFR data is integrated into the Aeronautical Map, giving pilots all of the information they need for VFR and Yankee/Zulu flying, including VFR waypoints, arrival and departure procedures, circuits, holds, no overfly areas, nature reserves, and more.

For IFR flyers, optional Jeppesen chart coverages are available today and include departure, arrival, and geo-referenced terminal procedures, airport charts, data-driven enroute charts, and Jeppesen Airway Manual supplements.

The Maps view also features extensive Jeppesen-sourced global airspace information for FIRs/UIRs, controlled airspace, special use airspace, and transition altitudes. Tap anywhere on the map to access center and radio frequencies, RVSM cruise tables, operational notes, speed restrictions, prior notification procedures, and communication details for CPDLC and satellite services.

Advanced Planning for High-Performance Aircraft

ForeFlight’s sophisticated flight planning engine produces highly accurate flight time and fuel burn calculations, recommends the best EUROCONTROL validated routes, and has a user-friendly interface for effortless scenario planning.

ForeFlight’s top-tier Business Performance plan includes a library of detailed aircraft profiles that include climb, cruise, and descent models defined for multiple altitudes, weights, and temperatures using the manufacturer’s published flight planning performance data. The library contains hundreds of profiles for the most popular turbine aircraft from Bombardier, Cessna, Daher, Dassault, Embraer, Gulfstream, Pilatus, and more.

ForeFlight’s planning engine, when combined with the detailed aircraft profiles, can account for the ever-changing wind, temperature, and weight conditions the aircraft experiences throughout a trip, resulting in highly accurate flight time and fuel burn calculations for all conditions. These capabilities enable ForeFlight to produce a Recommended Route based on EUROCONTROL constraints, as well as wind, temperature, and the specific aircraft performance profile.

Business Performance also includes an easy-to-use fuel planning tool that gives operators the flexibility to calculate block fuel using the desired fuel strategy, like minimum fuel, maximum fuel, landing fuel, and more. Pilots can quickly calculate various fuel load scenarios for faster, more confident decision-making.

Smart, Interactive Autorouting and Integrated Filing

ForeFlight makes preflight planning fast and easy. Customers can plan a route in just a few taps using the form-based Flights view or the interactive Map. Accessible in both views, the Graphical Route Advisor feature generates EUROCONTROL validated routes within a matter of seconds and presents the options for comparison on a visual preview map.

Graphical Route Advisor also makes it easier to find the correct route and select it for filing with the ability to filter routes based on IFR, VFR, YFR, or ZFR flight rules.

ForeFlight supports filing flight plans directly from the mobile app or on the web. The company’s global, uniquely geo-redundant AFTN connection provides fast, direct, and unlimited access to filing flight plans with EUROCONTROL with no additional cost or account configuration required.

Additionally, when filing flight plans via ForeFlight, customers receive Calculated Take-Off Time (CTOT) notifications via email and push when traffic management initiatives are in effect.

For commercial operators who fly single engine turbine aircraft in Europe, ForeFlight automates the EASA-prescribed route risk analysis. ForeFlight’s Recommended Route calculation considers aircraft glide performance data to deliver SETOPS-compliant routes. This capability shaves off substantial time from preflight workflow – what used to take hours is now accomplished in seconds. Supporting compliance documentation is provided in the preflight Briefing, and includes a graphical glide range depiction and a detailed SET-IMC risk threshold analysis table.

Professional pilots will also enjoy the efficiency of using datalink technology to upload flight plans to Honeywell and Satcom Direct FMS equipment. With a configured Aircraft profile, ForeFlight generates an FMS recall number as part of the detailed Navlog document.

Tools for Schedulers and Administrators

ForeFlight’s web platform provides additional features and capabilities to plan, brief, file, and collaborate from a desktop computer.

Trip Assistant is a fast, accurate way to plan trips from door-to-door. This simple-to-use tool factors in traffic during drive times as well as flight times to create a detailed itinerary, so planners know exactly when passengers need to leave their home or office to arrive at their final destination on time.

The web platform also enables flight department administrators to efficiently manage multi-pilot accounts. From the dashboard, managers can add and remove pilots from the account, ensure pilots are flying with the latest charts, data, documents, and version of ForeFlight software, set up and publish company aircraft profiles to all users, and more.

ForeFlight Cloud Documents solution is a fast, easy, affordable way to distribute company documents to every flight crew member. Administrators can control the distribution of every new or revised flight manual, operating handbook, or special procedures to every pilot’s iPad, delivered via Dropbox, Box, or Amazon S3.

Stunning Weather Visualization

The planned route line can be viewed in relation to a full range of interactive aviation weather layers, including animated radar, global satellite and winds aloft, color-coded METARs and TAFs, graphical AIR/SIGMETs, global icing and turbulence, surface pressure isobars, and more. A separate Imagery view neatly organizes static weather forecast imagery by region.

ForeFlight in the Air

Once in the cockpit, the Maps tab transitions from comprehensive preflight planning tool to dynamic inflight navigation support. For the ultimate situational awareness, the innovative Plates on Maps feature overlays approach plates and airport diagrams onto the moving map, along with aircraft position, weather, and hazards in one integrated view.

ForeFlight’s advanced, global hazard awareness technology helps pilots plan and fly with more confidence in all conditions and terrain. The top-down-view Hazard Advisor map layer, the side Profile View, and 3D Synthetic Vision depict a clear picture of terrain and obstacle hazards anywhere in the world. When paired with a compatible AHRS source, Synthetic Vision provides a backup attitude display.

In addition to AHRS, ForeFlight’s Connect platform enables portable and installed avionics to connect with ForeFlight Mobile and deliver capabilities like two-way flight plan transfer, and the display of ADS-B traffic and GPS data.
