- and more!
#2: Interview with Chase Plane Pilot for “Top Gun: Maverick”
Our interview with Kevin LaRosa II, aerial coordinator and chase plane pilot for Top Gun: Maverick, was our best-performing Between Two Wings episode ever, with over 21,000 views and listens!
#3: Altitude Planning with Hazard Advisor
Hazard Advisor got a big upgrade with an altitude slider that helps you visualize hazardous terrain at different altitudes. Manually control the altitude using the slider on the right, which ranges from 100′ to 30,000′ MSL. Hazard Advisor is available with Pro Plus subscriptions and above.
#4: ForeFlight for Military Gets Even Better
We launched our new Military Flight Bag subscription plan, MFB ONE, which incorporates the most advanced military flight planning features in ForeFlight, putting the power of a full mission planning system on your mobile device with:
- Enroute Fuel Changes: Easily plan for aerial refueling with options to onload or offload fuel at a specified point.
- Air Force Weather Briefings: Get an official DD-175-1 Weather Briefing in just two taps directly from the USAF 557th Weather Wing.
- Time On Target™: Never miss a contact time — or a kickoff — with responsive guidance to help you overfly a point at a designated time.
- Planning with DOD Obstacles: Plan and fly at low-levels with over 20 million up-to-date DOD obstacles.
Check out our recent webinar, where ForeFlight’s MFB team demonstrates these innovative features and how you can incorporate them into your workflow. You can also compare all of our subscription plans for military here.
#5: Interview with a Thunderbird Lead Pilot
We had the opportunity to interview Michelle “MACE” Curran, a Lead Solo Thunderbird pilot, for our Between Two Wings podcast. Learn what led her to become a motivational speaker after a successful career in the military, how the Thunderbirds selection process became more challenging during her time with the team, and how their series of flights across the U.S. at the height of COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020 all started with a group text and why it was some of the most stressful flying of her career.
#6: Runway Analysis Engine Out Procedures
ForeFlight’s dedicated GIS team blew past the 10,000 mark for custom engine out procedures available as part of our Runway Analysis product for turbine aircraft. These RNAV procedures are designed to follow published departures whenever available and cover over 150 countries around the world.
#7: Another Year, Another Thrilling Oshkosh
EAA AirVenture set new records in Oshkosh, Wisconsin this year with over 650,000 people in attendance! Meeting customers in person to show them what’s new, collect feedback and feature requests, and share our love for everything aviation is always our favorite time of the year!
#8: Per-Leg Altitude in Profile View
Per-Leg Altitude in Profile was added in our May release, making it easier to plan enroute altitude changes and visualize them in Profile View.
#9: Global Graphical NOTAMs
Previously limited to Europe, support for graphical enroute NOTAMs was rolled out globally as part of the NOTAMS map layer in our May release. NOTAMs are color-coded red, yellow, or gray based on type, severity, and active times. Additionally, with the NOTAMs layer enabled, you can selectively filter which types are shown using the new menu in Map Settings > NOTAMs Settings, with toggles for Exercises, Controlled Airspaces, Obstacles, and Other.
#10: Runway Analysis Aircraft Support
ForeFlight added Runway Analysis support for 45 turbine aircraft this year, bringing the total to 120! You can view the complete list of supported aircraft here.
Runway Analysis is fully integrated with ForeFlight’s existing flight planning workflow across Mobile, Web, and Dispatch, leveraging available route, fuel, and weight details to calculate your MTOW and other results quickly. With a blazing fast obstacle analysis incorporating engine out procedures, a detailed Summary document for inflight reference and record keeping, and a slew of efficiency-boosting automations, Runway Analysis helps you ensure a safe flight with minimal time and effort.
