ForeFlight Now Available for Europe

ForeFlight offers European VFR and IFR pilots the combination of powerful planning and filing capabilities, state-of-the-art hazard awareness features, and Jeppesen’s world-class data and charts in one integrated app.

HIGH WYCOMBE, UK | 11 June 2018: ForeFlight today announced that its flagship Integrated Flight Application is available now in Europe. ForeFlight’s powerful features combined with Jeppesen’s world-class aeronautical data products gives pilots a single solution for charts, documents, weather, route planning, briefing, filing, and flying.

ForeFlight Mobile is the most widely used application by individual pilots and professional flight crews to view weather and airport information, plan and file EUROCONTROL validated routes, access and manage electronic charts and maps, reference flight manuals and documents, avoid terrain and obstacles with state-of-the-art hazard awareness tools, display in-flight traffic (and weather, where supported), and aid enroute navigation.

ForeFlight for Europe

All subscription plans with the Europe region include Jeppesen’s best-in-class digital VFR and IFR navigation data, which are dynamically rendered directly on ForeFlight’s data-driven (vector) Aeronautical map, as well as AIP procedures, charts, and documents provided via EUROCONTROL.

Optional purchases include Jeppesen VFR terminal procedures (formerly Bottlang charts), Jeppesen IFR chart coverages, and host nation VFR data packages – initially with an option to add charts and procedures for Germany from DFS. Additional host nation VFR packages will be added in the coming months.

ForeFlight will be on display for demonstration at the AeroExpo UK in High Wycombe June 14-16 (stand A28).

“ForeFlight is thrilled to offer pilots in Europe a uniquely powerful and affordable integrated flight application for VFR and IFR flying,” said ForeFlight Co-founder and CEO, Tyson Weihs. “We are combining an array of high-quality European data from Jeppesen and others, our EUROCONTROL-integrated flight planning and filing capabilities, and a broad suite of navigation and safety features,” Weihs continued. “With one application, pilots can review airport information and maps, NOTAMs, plan and brief flights for pistons or jets, validate and file flight plans with EUROCONTROL, navigate complex airspace, avoid terrain and obstacles with hazard alerts and synthetic vision, access traffic and weather in-flight where supported, automatically update databases, and transfer flight plans directly from ForeFlight Mobile into Garmin, Avidyne, and Dynon avionics.”

“Our team members in Denmark, Germany, Austria, UK, and Finland – along with our large beta team and thousands of current European customers – are flying throughout Europe every week to help us craft a great product that works well here,” said Kim Lantz, ForeFlight European Director. “We expect pilots will find the integration of ForeFlight’s own data, Jeppesen VFR and IFR data, EUROCONTROL data, and DFS data; our fast, accurate flight planning and routing; and the breadth of in-flight features combine to deliver a delightful experience that makes planning and flying in Europe a joy.”

Essential Charts and Data for VFR and IFR Flying

ForeFlight’s powerful, state-of-the-art map engine gives the app its signature speed and fluidity when panning and zooming. The global basemap and data-driven Aeronautical Map layer feature Jeppesen’s high-quality terrain, obstacle, and NavData®.

In addition, Jeppesen’s Europe VFR data is integrated into the Aeronautical Map, giving VFR pilots all of the information they need to fly, including VFR waypoints, arrival and departure procedures, circuits, holds, no overfly areas, nature reserves, and more.

For IFR flyers, optional Jeppesen chart coverages are available and include departure, arrival, and geo-referenced terminal procedures, airport charts, data-driven enroute charts, and Jeppesen Airway Manual supplements.

Smart, Interactive Autorouting and Integrated Filing

ForeFlight makes preflight planning fast and easy using the form-based Flights view or the interactive Map. The Graphical Route Advisor feature generates EUROCONTROL validated routes within a matter of seconds and presents the options for comparison on a visual preview map.

ForeFlight supports filing flight plans directly from the mobile app or on the web. The company’s global, redundant AFTN connection provides fast, direct, and unlimited access to filing flight plans with EUROCONTROL with no additional cost or account configuration required.

Additionally, when filing flight plans via ForeFlight, customers receive Calculated Take-Off Time (CTOT) notifications via email and push when traffic management initiatives are in effect.

Also, planning for and navigating through the complex airspace in Europe is easier with ForeFlight’s new Airspace in Profile and Automatic Airspace Highlight capabilities.

Stunning Weather Visualization

The planned route line can be viewed in relation to a full range of interactive aviation weather layers, including animated radar, global satellite and winds aloft, color-coded METARs and TAFs, graphical AIR/SIGMETs, global icing and turbulence, surface pressure isobars, and more.

ForeFlight in the Air

Once in the cockpit, the Maps tab transitions from a comprehensive preflight planning tool to dynamic inflight navigation support. For the ultimate situational awareness, the innovative Plates on Maps feature overlays approach plates and airport diagrams onto the moving map, along with aircraft position, weather, and hazards in one integrated view.

ForeFlight’s advanced, global hazard awareness technology helps pilots plan and fly with more confidence in all conditions and terrain. The top-down-view Hazard Advisor map layer, the side Profile View, and 3D Synthetic Vision depict a clear picture of terrain and obstacle hazards anywhere in the world. When paired with a compatible AHRS source, Synthetic Vision provides a backup attitude display.

In addition to AHRS, ForeFlight’s Connect platform enables portable and installed avionics to connect with ForeFlight Mobile and deliver capabilities like two-way flight plan transfer, and the display of ADS-B traffic and GPS data.

ForeFlight Partners with Gogo on Inflight Connectivity

We are excited to announce our partnership with Gogo to make ForeFlight Mobile available to customers using Gogo’s ATG 1000 inflight connectivity system beginning in December 2015.gogo-logo

ForeFlight customers on aircraft equipped with the ATG 1000 can take advantage of the app’s full range of real-time information inflight, including up to the minute weather, Flight Notifications, NOTAMs and TFRs, as well as Cockpit Sharing – a feature pilots can use to wirelessly share route information with one another and with passengers’ iPads and iPhones.

Tyson Weihs, ForeFlight co-founder and CEO, shared: “Internet connectivity with the ATG 1000 is yet another example of our commitment to give our customers every possibility to enhance their in-flight experience with ForeFlight Mobile. In addition, many business passengers are also pilots or they may have an active interest in aviation. ForeFlight Mobile allows them to see the weather and route information that the pilots up front are seeing.”

ForeFlight Mobile 7.3 Delivers Two-Way Flight Plan Transfer with Garmin Avionics

The second phase of our ForeFlight Connect integration with Garmin avionics is complete and you can now seamlessly transfer your flight plan between ForeFlight Mobile and Garmin GTN and GNS navigators when connected via the Garmin Flight Stream 210, Garmin’s Bluetooth wireless gateway, making everything from pre-flight planning to inflight re-routing easier and faster.

Get in the Air Faster

ForeFlight pilots can load a simple route, as well as approaches, SIDs, STARs, routes with airways, and search and rescue patterns. ForeFlight Mobile also receives route changes you make on the Garmin navigator, keeping your panel and iOS device in sync.

ForeFlight Web syncs to your iPad

Coupled with ForeFlight Web, connectivity with your Garmin panel creates a true web-to-panel flight planning experience. Plan your day’s flight from the comfort of your desktop web browser and then ForeFlight’s secure, cloud-based Sync system sends your web planning activity to your iPad. The seamless handoff allows you to pick up and finish your plan on the iPad and send it to your panel. In the air, the combination of ForeFlight and Flight Stream enables you—or your co-pilot—to quickly set up and program a new route if you need to divert.

ForeFlight Mobile has coded procedures, so creating complex routes with SID, STAR, and approach waypoints is easy and intuitive using Procedure Preview. The flight plan transfer capability with Garmin means that you don’t have to waste time rebuilding that route in the navigator—sitting in the airplane, on the ground, engine running.

Another example of how ForeFlight Mobile and Garmin flight plan transfer combine to make pilot life easier is to file your flight plan from the app. If you are a ForeFlight Mobile Pro customer, we push expected route notifications to your device. With a tap, load expected route changes into your Navlog, re-file the amendment from ForeFlight Mobile, and then at the airplane send your expected route to your panel before taking off.

Getting in the air faster is also mission critical to search and rescue operations. ForeFlight Mobile’s Procedure Preview is a time-saving tool for building search and rescue patterns. Use ForeFlight’s wireless sharing capability or email to share and brief the plan with other members of the search team and then quickly transfer the route plan, with the SAR pattern, into your Garmin navigator.

The Flight Stream 210’s built-in AHRS also provides pitch and bank information for ForeFlight’s Synthetic Vision and backup attitude displays, and a connected GDL 84/88 rounds out the experience by delivering ADS-B traffic and weather information to your iPad display.

How It Works

Simply pair your iPad or iPhone via Bluetooth to Garmin Flight Stream:

Pair with ForeFlight with Flight Stream via Bluetooth

Tap the ‘Panel’ button at the top of the Maps view and then tap ‘Send to Panel’. This sends the route currently displayed in the Navlog to your Garmin navigator.

Send route to the Garmin panel

To manually pull an updated or new route from your Garmin navigator, select ‘Load from Panel’. The ‘Auto-Receive from Panel’ setting automatically sends a notification when changes are made in the navigator, allowing you to keep your panel avionics and mobile app on the same page:
