ForeFlight Launches Sentry Plus ADS-B Receiver, Newest and Most Advanced Product in the Sentry Line of Life Saving Pilot Accessories

Featured

Sentry Plus is the latest addition to ForeFlight’s ADS-B product suite, offering new features such as longer battery life, a high-performance flight data recorder, g-Load meter, support for FLARM traffic, and much more.

Developed in collaboration with and manufactured by Montana-based avionics company uAvionix, Sentry Plus builds on the award-winning capabilities of prior devices in the Sentry family with powerful new features and industry-leading battery life at a competitive price of US$799, and is available for purchase from Sporty’s Pilot Shop in the United States and SkyFox and CAE Aviation in Europe.

“We continue to expand the Sentry family of affordable ADS-B products with the most advanced portable receiver yet,” said Tim Schuetze, ForeFlight President. “Sentry Plus combines the best of previous devices with new innovations to make flying and logging even easier — for every kind of pilot. We’re proud to offer the only device on the market combining so many powerful features in such a compact and affordable device.”

Sentry Plus integrates all the capabilities of prior Sentry devices, including ADS-B In weather and traffic, WAAS GPS, carbon monoxide (CO) monitoring and alerting, AHRS pitch and bank, and more, with powerful new features in an innovative and compact design.

“The Sentry product line has proven to be a literal life-saver for many pilots, both as a weather and traffic awareness tool, and as a carbon monoxide monitor.” said Christian Ramsey, uAvionix President. “The Sentry Plus’ evolution represents direct customer feedback for expanded capabilities and life saving features. The partnership between ForeFlight and uAvionix continues to drive innovation that results in amazing products for our pilot community.”

Its most prominent feature, a 1.3” OLED screen, displays connection information and live flight metrics, including a new g-Load meter to monitor and record inflight acceleration. Its contoured, wallet-sized case maximizes GPS and ADS-B antenna reception, while boasting a record-breaking 18+ hour battery life for reliable all-day operation.

Sentry Plus also introduces a new high-performance flight data recorder to automatically record, save, and transfer detailed track logs to ForeFlight Mobile in seconds for postflight review and logging. Add to this an Auto Power On/Off setting while connected to ship power, and Sentry Plus is capable of down-to-the-minute Hobbs time tracking to streamline the flight logging process even further.

And in a first for portable receivers, Sentry Plus’s antennas are optimized for concurrent UAT and European FLARM reception, enabling pilots in Europe to see and avoid nearby traffic using this popular short-range position reporting standard. A FLARM decoding license is required to receive and display FLARM traffic and can be purchased as part of a ForeFlight subscription at foreflight.com/buy.

FULL FEATURE LIST

ADS-B Weather (limited to US and other supported regions)
Sentry Plus delivers subscription-free FIS-B weather & data. Display animated regional and CONUS NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs, AIR/SIGMETs, PIREPs, textual winds and temps aloft, TFRs, NOTAMs, and SUA information on ForeFlight Mobile.

ADS-B + FLARM Traffic
Get help in “seeing and avoiding” with dynamic traffic display in ForeFlight from ADS-B Out equipped aircraft. Additionally, Sentry Plus’s antennas are optimized for European FLARM reception in addition to ADS-B, allowing glider pilots and others in Europe to use their preferred traffic network (requires the purchase of a FLARM license via foreflight.com/buy to enable).

High-Precision GPS
Pilotage meets the 21st century with Sentry Plus’s highly-accurate WAAS GPS providing down-to-the-meter position data. See your aircraft position on ForeFlight’s moving map display and innovative Plates on Map feature. View a variety of inflight data, including ground speed, altitude, ETE, distance to destination, and more.

Wi-Fi Client Support
No need to choose between Sentry Plus and your existing cockpit Wi-Fi solution with support for Wi-Fi client connections. Setup is quick and easy thanks to the OLED display, and Sentry Plus will automatically connect to known client Wi-Fi networks for a set-it-and-forget-it solution.

Protect Yourself & Your Passengers

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recently released a recommendation that the FAA require all enclosed-cabin aircraft with reciprocating engines to be equipped with a carbon monoxide (CO) detector. This decision came after reviewing several fatal accidents and determining their cause to be carbon monoxide poisoning.

You can read the entire report from the NTSB here.

ForeFlight’s Sentry Plus and Sentry ADS-B receivers meet the recommendation and provide a simple solution to protecting you and your passengers from this invisible danger with a built-in carbon monoxide sensor. When using a Sentry device in conjunction with the ForeFlight app, an audio alert is delivered through compatible headsets, and both Sentry Plus and Sentry provide a visual indication when CO levels in the cabin are dangerously high.

The portable and affordable Sentry devices also deliver additional safety benefits such as ADS-B weather and traffic and WAAS GPS making them the most advanced ADS-B & GPS receivers in the industry.
