FLYING readers voted ForeFlight’s Sentry Plus ADS-B receiver as the “most compelling or game-changing” new product.
ForeFlight, a Boeing Company, was honored to receive the Readers’ Choice Award and Editors’ Choice Award from FLYING for Sentry Plus, ForeFlight’s market-leading portable ADS-B and FLARM receiver. The awards were presented at a ceremony during EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and highlights ForeFlight’s commitment to innovation in aviation technology.
Sentry Plus, designed in partnership with and manufactured by uAvionix, offers unparalleled inflight safety and situational awareness capabilities. Key features unique to Sentry Plus include an 18-hour battery life, FLARM receiver, g-meter, and built-in flight data recorder. A crisp OLED display on the front of the unit also provides real-time status information on battery life, GPS and ADS-B signal strength, and carbon monoxide levels.
“When Sentry Plus was released two years ago, we received immediate positive feedback about the number of capabilities built in,” said Cole Crawford, ForeFlight’s Senior Product Manager, who oversaw its development. “Pilots particularly loved that its 18-hour battery life could easily handle several days of flying without needing a recharge, along with the convenience of automatic tracklog recording.”
Sentry Plus built on the success of Sentry, which was released in 2018 and featured the industry’s first built-in carbon monoxide detector in a portable ADS-B receiver, as well as live ADS-B traffic and weather information.
“The integrated carbon monoxide detector was a game changer for pilots,” said Crawford. “Over the last six years, we have regularly heard stories from pilots about how Sentry or Sentry Plus alerted them to dangerous carbon monoxide levels, allowing them to take prompt action to avert catastrophe.”
“We’re honored that the overwhelming majority of FLYING readers selected the Sentry Plus as the most innovative new product in aviation,” said Tim Schuetze, CEO of ForeFlight. “From enhancing safety and situational awareness to offering pilots new ways to debrief their flights with its integrated g-meter, we’re proud of the continued success of Sentry Plus.”
This is not the first time ForeFlight has been recognized by FLYING for its innovative contributions to aviation. In 2023, ForeFlight received the Innovation Award for Hazard Advisor, a feature available in Pro and Performance plans that color codes terrain and obstacles on the map, providing pilots with crucial information at a glance.
