Our latest release features a new Wake Turbulence feature and additional VFR Add-On Charts.
Wake Turbulence Alerts
Avoid unexpected wake turbulence in flight with the help of visual and auditory alerts along with a map-based wake depiction system in ForeFlight Mobile.
When equipped with a connected ADS-B or FLARM receiver and flying at or above 500 feet AGL, ForeFlight continuously calculates wake effects from nearby aircraft based on their position, altitude, speed, weight category, and winds aloft information, then compares these with your current flight path.
If it determines that an intersection with the wake is likely, ForeFlight issues a prominent visual and audio alert that includes the wake-producing aircraft’s weight category and call sign, and your current distance from the estimated wake location in nautical miles.
Additionally, ForeFlight depicts the wake’s estimated position and relative altitude directly on the map as a colored ribbon trailing behind the aircraft. Red portions of the ribbon indicate the position of the wake near your current altitude, while light green portions indicate areas where the wake is either above or below you.
The point at which you’ll intersect the wake path based on your current flight path is also indicated as a short white strip across the ribbon marked by double chevrons, allowing you to more easily gauge where you’ll cross the wake path relative to the wake itself.
You can disable Wake Turbulence alerts in Map Settings > Alerts > Traffic > “Wake Turbulence Alerts”.
Available with ForeFlight Pro subscriptions and above.
New VFR Add-On Charts
Customers in the Middle East and South Africa now have the option to include VFR charts from Rogers Data and DFS in their ForeFlight subscription. This addition allows users to access the corresponding charts for their regions, enhancing their flight planning and navigation capabilities.
New Rogers Data 1:1M charts for Saudi Arabia and UAE, Bahrain, and Qatar are now available as add-ons to any ForeFlight subscription that includes the Middle East & South Asia region.
Similarly, customers with the Africa region in their subscription can now purchase new DFS Special Rules Areas 1:250k charts for Johannesburg and Cape Town to supplement ForeFlight’s existing government VFR charts covering South Africa and adjacent countries.
